Zip drives like to be slave IDE drives. To force the drive to access the disk, type fdisk -l as sudo or su. Assuming the zip drive is /dev/hdb. The disk will be /dev/hdb4. Please do not ask why. After that, you can just mount the disk. To mount it, type sudo mount -t auto -o rw /dev/hdb4 /mnt/disk. This assumes that you are in the wheel group and sudo is installed with the proper config.
