ubutu make faster


hai
i am using ubuntu 5.10
it is very slow
my systems RAM is 128 and P4

how can i make it work faster

is there any way to do it.

Several. In no particular order:

1) Try recompiling the kernel. You can cut out all the parts you don't need. That gives some performance increase.
2) Buy more RAM. RAM is what makes your machine really fly.
3) Don't use Gnome or KDE. Install a lightweight window manager like icewm, fluxbox, windowmaker, enlightenment, etc

I'm sure there's more, but those are the ones that'll probably yield the best results.

you can kill some services, nothing big like syslog, but try cutting down on the backup utilities or thigns like that, also the use of a small light wight WM and more ram aslways helps. also avoid software that eats ram, like amarok or firefox.


i am a huge FF and amarok fan but i also have 2 gigs of ram, firefox especialy snyhting 1.5 or above eats ram aswell as amarok 1.2 and above.
