Ubuntu on Dell Dimension 4500, Keyboard and mouse Issue

Short story: After installing Ubuntu on Dell Dimension 4500, I try to log in, but the keyboard and mouse doesn't work.
Long story: A friend... we will call him Bob... Bob has an annoying brother that keeps on messing up his computer, he hired me (AFMW Computer Repair) to solve the issue for good. So after explaining all his ideas were no good and would cost money, he agreed to instal Ubuntu on his Dell Dimension 4500. I had it set up so it is a partition hard drive. After several different tries, The mouse and keyboard will not work. I have a $400 pay check running on this issue, so please help. If I can not get this fixed, I am screwed

Might start at bios settings. There might be some setting like enable usb or legacy support or some other odd deal.

I'd also start with live cd's. Boot to them but usually you can press space bar at booting splash screen and it will give you a menu to test disk. DO that on first boot always. It is the best way to tell if your disk is OK.

Then boot to the live cd and see if it works. We could learn more if it fails at both times.

Thanks, I got it working. One of the issues was his damn magic jack, I got it working, now just need to get the screen issue fixed. It thinks it must run in 800 by 600... but that is a lower ranking problem, he is happy with the computer.
