Ubuntu not respecting /etc/fstab options?
I'm fairly new to Ubuntu - I used to use Slackware pretty much exclusively. So I'm trying to help my wife play with Ubuntu on her Macbook and running into some problems.
First, I've read conflicting reports about hfsplus support. Read seems fine, but I cannot get the OS X HFS+ journaled filesystem partition to mount rw in linux. Is that just not possible? Most article/forums seem to say it's not possible, but then I found a couple that said it was....
Ok, so moving on. Even if rw support is not possible, I should be able to edit the /etc/fstab entry so that when she mounts the partition her normal user account can access all the folders and everything. Right now, when she tries to get into /media/macattack/Users/username all the folders inside are locked. Only root can view the contents.
So I changed the options to
users,rw,auto,uid=1000,umask=0000 0 0
Her Ubuntu user id = 1000, according the /etc/passwd. But it didn't affect a thing. Regardless of whether I mount it on the command line or by double-clicking the icon in Dolphin (she's using KDE) it still mounts the same way, and she can't view the contents unless she uses sudo.
What's going on?
