ubuntu -how do i switch from onboard sound to pci soundcard

I have no sound, but im betting its because i use my PCI soundblaster card vs the online motherboard sound.

How can i switch the default sound output - or am i way off?

Your sound card could just be muted.. alsamixer

if you do need to switch sound cards..

sudo asoundconf list - to list names of available cards
Names of available sound cards:
SB
LIVE

sudo asoundconf set-default-card LIVE to switch to the LIVE card as the default

or with GUI

System -> Preferences -> Sound
Select the Sounds Tab
Choose the default Sound card at the bottom..

On some motherboards the integrated sound can be 'disabled'
in the BIOS menu.
