ubuntu, 8.04, i have no sound,intel-82801EB/ER (intel8x0), philips snd systm-usb c

hi
i installed ubuntu, 8.04 few days ago, i have no sound and i tried to follow the commands that i've read in guides through the internet. all that with no successes. i have intel-82801EB/ER (intel8x0), 6 years old philips sound speaker system (2.1) which connected through usb connection to the computer. i have checked the alsa mixer , and everything over there is fine and ran this script:
1)lspci
2) modprobe snd-intel8x0

the first gave me the following output and the second didn't give me anything. do you have advice for me.
thanks

The modules seem to be loaded.

oops ....the link is www.alsa-project.org

see http://www.alsa-project.org/main/ind...odule-intel8x0

Just for checking, do

#sudo modprobe snd-intel8x0 ; sudo modprobe snd-pcm-oss ;sudo modprobe snd-mixer-oss ; sudo modprobe snd-seq-oss

#alsamixer

You may need to add options in /etc/....

the alsamixer is loaded - and all everything which should not be muted is muted

snd_usb_audio is loaded. So either you have a non standard system or the problem is elsewhere.

You can try compiling ALSA from source for your specific card.

use ark to decompress the latest alsa..tar.bz2.
#cd <the folder>
#./configure --help
read it and then provide the correct options
#./configure --with-gnu-ld --with.....

#make
#sudo make install

i installed pulse audio... and with that comes a sound meter where i can see if there is any output for the speakers. i saw that there is so i tried again to play with the configuration of the sound. this time it work (i don't know whether i tried something else or not) and i chose usb in the music/playback events(before when i tried it , it didn't work...)
thanks
