ubuntu 8.04 and have the smp runing how many processors should i see


i have dual quad core processors running in a linux ubuntu 8.04 i386 os should i see 8 or 16 cpus?

Depends on the processor. If you have CPUs that support Hyperthreading you should see 16 cores, If they don't support it you will see 8 cores.
By the way, if this is not the server version of Ubuntu 8.04 you really should upgrade, since only the server version of 8.04 is supported anymore.

Thanks that is what I thought. Yes it is the server version of the 8.04. I am running the 32 bit version, of the server. How can I enable the SMP? Also will that allow me to be able to use the other CPUs?

Ubuntu 8.04 should support SMP out of the box, so nothing to do for you here.

Of course, that is what SMP is made for.
