Ubuntu 12.04 - Dual monitor setup won't work (Work individually - not together)

Hi!

I'm fairly new to Linux (Well, i've been running Ubuntu 10.04 for about a year on my laptop, but I hardly use my laptop.. so I still don't have a lot of experience) and have just put Ubuntu 12.04 onto my desktop.

Everything seems to be functioning alright except for one thing. I've got an Asus GeForce GTX 670 video card, and run dual monitors. The primary monitor is a Viewsonic VX2453MH-LED, which is connected via HDMI - secondary monitor is an LG Flatron W2252TQ, whcih is connected via DVI. The issue is that the monitors are not working together. If both are plugged in, the DVI (secondary) monitor takes priority and the HDMI (primary) will not turn on at all, and isn't detected. If I unplug the DVI cable, and boot up with only the HDMI monitor plugged in, then it will function also. But they just will not work together.

I had another video issue that could be related, or give a hint to the actual problem. Initially, I was not able to set my monitor to a resolution higher than 1024x768, even though the monitors native resolution was 1680x1050 (the DVI, secondary.) I managed to solve this by installing the nVidia drivers, and can now set both monitors to their native resolutions (Primary, HDMI - 1920x1080. Secondary, DVI - 1680x1050,) but when I 'detect' whichever monitor is running at the time (since they won't run together) it is detected as "Laptop". Could this be a cause?

Any help would be appreciated.

SOLVED

After some more fiddling around, and actually looking at the nVidia control panel rather than just the displays control.. (my bad) i've got both monitors working

I'm sorry, I don't remember.. And i'm running Mint now, and have two new identical monitors, so no more HDMI/DVI difference.. so I can't really tell you >_>
