Ubuntu 11.04 on ACER MINI TOWER AX1800

Hi all,
I may be purchasing this Acer mini tower to be used as my media center. However, it comes preloaded with windows 7 64 bit, 4Gb RAM, with a 640Gb HD, hdmi, etc. etc.. I wanted to do this;

-wipe it and install Ubuntu 11.04
-partition the drive in half
-install XBMC

any concerns over this type of setup?

would Ubuntu have any issues with the hdmi slot ?

thx

What type of GPU does this machine have? That will be the deciding factor for HDMI support.

It should work.

But 4GB of RAM is way overkill for a media center, and at least some of the X1800s come with Core2Qauds which are even more overkill. Also, the 7XXX (and earlier) nVidia GPUs dont support VDPAU (nVidia hardware video decoding).

I'd only consider that acer if its a really, really, _really_ good deal. If its priced anwhere near normal retail, you'd do better to find a different computer.
