Two soundcards and ALSA

I'm using Debian testing/unstable, with the 2.6.8 kernel. I have two soundcards, one onboard (VT82C686) and one PCI (creative labs ectiva EV1938 (ens1371)). ALSA doesn't seem to allow me to do anything with the pci card, and i've been unable to figure out how to change modules around in a way that works.
