TVOut with SuSE 9.0

Hi!
I've installed SuSE 9.0 on a PC with GeForce 5200 FX.
My problem is that I don't success display on TV by RCA output.
I think that the system doesn't load the X server, so on TV I see only the text environment and not the Linux GUI.

Can you help me?

Thank you very much

Move
Option "ConnectedMonitor" "TV"
Option "TVOutFormat" "COMPOSITE"
Option "TVStandard" "PAL-B"

To the device section.

Change
Option "ConnectedMonitor" "TV"
to
Option "ConnectedMonitor" "CRT, TV"

Look up metamodes in the nVidia documentation. Metamodes tells the driver what resolution that the secondary display should used. It will be something like "640x480, 640x480". You can have mixed resolutions but it going to be weird when the screen is panning with the mouse cursor. If you are going to use a resolution like 1600x1200, you will have to use 1600x1200, NULL. This is because the limitation of the TV hardware which has a maximum resolution of 1024x768. The NULL just disables the TV out at the desire resolution.

All the above is explained in the nVidia documentation.

A program like sax is pathetic. The best tool to edit XF86Config or xorg.conf is a text editor and a pair of hands. What were SUSE developers thinking.

I've tested what you suggested but the test is failed!
Why?
I have moved
Option "ConnectedMonitor" "CRT, TV"
Option "TVOutFormat" "COMPOSITE"
Option "TVStandard" "PAL-B"
in the "Device" section...

Help me please!!!!!

Add
Option "Metamodes" "640x480, 640x480"
Option "TwinView"
Option "TwinViewOrientation" "Clone"
Option "SecondMonitor"HorizSync" "30-50"
Option "SecondMonitorVertRefresh" "50" #50 for PAL & 60 for NTCS

It does help to read the nVidia documentation to know what to add in XF86Config or xorg.conf. Also it does help to test it with a real monitor first instead of a TV.

Below is my file if you want an example code with TV out

Code:
Section "Module"
Load "dbe" # Double buffer extension
Load "v4l" # Video for Linux

    SubSection "extmod"
Option "omit xfree86-dga" # don't initialise the DGA extension
    EndSubSection

    Load "type1"
    Load "freetype"
    Load "speedo"
    Load "glx"
EndSection

My video card has S-VIDEO instead of composite. I have never seen nVidia GeForceFX 5200 that comes with composite. They come with S-VIDEO. For my modelines, I copied from my Mandrake system

Thank you

The nVidia documentation or readme file is on their web site. Its located In the download section for the driver.

Do not copy my settings because it may damage your monitor, corrupt other devices, or programs may not find the right font. My config file is just to show you an example.

Again test your config with a computer monitor first. Then setup the TV out.

Are you sure you have a composite (RCA) connector because I have find all GeForceFX cards with S-Video connectors.

The line
Option "MetaModes" "CRT-0: 1280x1024, TV-0: 800x600"
is incorrect.

The correct line is
Option "MetaModes" "1280x1024, NULL; 1024x768, NULL; 800x600, 800x600; 640x480, 640x480"

Then hit CTL+ALT+- or CTL+ALT++ to zoom in or out. The above will not display anything at 1280x1024 to the TV. If you do use what you had before, the TV will be panning using 800x600 view of 1280x1024. The NULL just outputs a blank screen to the TV.

Also the lines
Option "HorizSync" "CRT-0: 28-69, TV-0: 30-50"
Option "VertRefresh" "CRT-0: 50-100, TV-0: 60"
are incorrect, so comment them or delete them.

THnx for your quick reply,

yes i'am sure i have composite it's a asus fx9520 and with this card you can choose if you want composite or S-video, and in windows it works fine.
I have edited the device section and it looks like this now:

Section "Device"

BoardName "0x0323"
Driver "nvidia"
Identifier "Device[0]"
Screen 0
Option "Rotate" "off"
option "NoLogo"
VendorName "NVidia"
Option "TwinView" "1"
Option "MetaModes" "1280x1024, NULL; 1024x768, NULL; 800x600, 800x600; 640x480, 640x480"
Option "ConnectedMonitor" "CRT, TV"
# Option "HorizSync" "CRT-0: 28-69, TV-0: 30-50"
# Option "VertRefresh" "CRT-0: 50-100, TV-0: 60"
Option "SecondMonitorHorizSync" "30-50"
Option "SecondMonitorVertRefresh" "60"
Option "TwinViewOrientation" "Clone"
Option "TVOutFormat" "Composite"
Option "TVStandard" "PAL-B"
Option "ConnectedMonitor" "crt,TV"
EndSection

so i restarted the X server, hit CTRL+alt++ or-
but still now respons on the TV screen
before it loads the nvidia driver it is fine. so that is from the moment i turn on my computer until loads the driver.
so maybee you have got a some other sugestions for me??

Delete the line that reads
Option "ConnectedMonitor" "crt,TV"
because you already have one.

I can not understand what you are saying.

I am sorry but that saying is irrelevant in Linux because it is very different. Use S-Video instead.

sorry my english is really bad i know.(I am a dutch guy so..)

what i ment was, that ther is a cable with a connector coming out of my video card on witch i can connect either a composite or a S-video cabel.
i have tried to leave the line "Option "ConnectedMonitor" "crt,TV"" out, and i do get a signal going to my TV now, but non to my monitor.
however i think i'am hadding in the right direction here.but i can still use a little help.
thanx for your reply so far.

Here's my settings, I cant even get to the desktop with these settings, it says:
-------

(EE) NVIDIA(0): No modes remaining for display device TV-0
(EE) NVIDIA(0): *** Aborting ***
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.

Fatal error:
no screens found

------

I can get to desktop with the original file which doesnt have the TV-OUT lines I inserted learning from this topic.
