tv card problem

I have an old tv card that I was able to get working under linux. It has an audio out directly on the card that I plugged into the input on the motherboard. However, I wasn't able to hear sound using this setup and the only way I could get sound to work was a cable from the line out on the card to the line in on the motherboard. Is there a way to get the sound to be processed digitally? The quality with the setup I used wasn't the greatest.

Depends on what the connection is on the motherboard. Open alsamixer from the command line and see what other input channels are and turn the volume up on them. Make sure it is not muted with a MM above. If so hit the m key to unmute. Lastly you may need to mix two channels to get it to work. I can't remember the keys for that.

Never used gnome volume control but my guess it is limited to standard channels of a basic soundcard. Anyways glad to be of help.

You may have to run the command ' alsactl store ' as root to save settings before reboot.
