Check to see if sound is muted. Make sure the volume is turned up. You may also want to run Alsaconf. Just a few thoughts I had while sipping some coffee this morning...

Make sure ADC and DAC is up to 100%. Also make sure PCM is unmuted and up to a decent level.
No, you do not need to run alsaconf. Even if you do, you have to run it as root.

I didn't think to ask before but are you getting no sounds at all? Or is it just with music CD's or with a single program?

I'm glad to see you got it working. I guess I wasn't much help though. As for the networking, I'd recommend some research on SAMBA. I'm no expert on using it or setting up, so I'll let someone else answer those questions. You might take a look at Using Samba to get ya started.

Yes I heard about using SAMBA after searching google for a bit. However I could not figure out what I need to dowload...nor do I know how to properly install anything on Linux.
You should have seen me trying to get F@H running on Linux...it didn't happen. :'(
