What mp3 player(s) can anyone recommend? I'm about to convert to linux and my only reservation is music. I use an ipod (a lot) which is on it's last legs and will be getting replaced with something else??. I would like any advice on players and software that anyone has.
Many thanks JohnV

If you are looking for software, I would recommend using Amarok combined with the Xine engine. Most linux distributions (except Linspire/Freespire) do not include support for *.wma files or the format used by Itunes/Ipod. You can find the codecs by doing a google search and install them after you have your system up and running. You're best bet is to seek help at that point in forums specific to your distribution.

If you are asking about MP3 players themselves, I would also recommend any player that can connect and be seen as a Mass Drive (Similar to a memory stick). These MP3 players connect and you just move your music files over just like moving files from disk to disk. Make sure that the player can play both MP3 and WMA files. A word of caution though, many players like IPOD are pushing a DRM scheme of one sort to another. You might have to find a utility that will allow you to strip this DRM from your ITunes files so that you can play them in another player (not an IPOD). Steer clear from using newer versions of Windows Media Player (starting with version 11) as Microsoft is strengthening its DRM liscensing.

You can find much information online, just look at the technical specs.

I hope I helped.

I've got a 20GB 4th gen iPod, a 60GB 5th gen iPod video and a 1GB iPod nano all work great with linux. if you are going to get something else be careful that it works as a usb mass storage device and doesn't need special software.

this is off the page for the sansa e200 series:

The SanDisk Media Converter supports most image formats to enjoy photos and small personal videos.
this probably means you wont be able to get photos or video on it without windows.
