Trying to setup printer, what is Device and device URI ?


Trying to setup Samsung ML-1210 in the browser window and I get to the screen that says Device but there is no option to choose parallel port? what do I do? also the next screen asks for Device URI, what is that?

For starters, do you have the Parallel port modulue loaded?
Also Im presuming your using CUPS.

# lsmod

Its called 'parport_pc'. If not

# modprobe parport_pc

and edit the startup scrips (mine is in /etc/rc.d/rc.modules) and set it to load at boot.

and try adding the printer again.

The device URI is for if your connecting to a print server, since its a local printer you shouldnt need it.
