Trying to Run SLI with 2 Nvidia Cards. Please Help

My goal is to install a 2nd video card so I can take advantage of the SLI capabilities of my motherboard and improve my graphics processing speed.

My system runs quite well with the single graphics card.

When I installed the 2nd nVidia GeForce 9800 GT card, KDE will not boot. I get a small x window telling me the config file failed to load and it can run in low resolution, but really doesn't. Instead, it just reloads the x window error. The xorg.conf file was deprecated in Kubuntu 11.04 so I don't have an xorg.conf file per se.

I'm running Kubuntu 11.04 (32-bits)

I'm using nvidia driver version 270.41.06.

I have a Dell2407WFP monitor and I'm using Dual DVI input.

I can bring up the NVIDIA X Server Settings window and everything looks good (monitor, version, OS, etc.).

I didn't include any config outputs because I can't get any with the 2nd card installed.

Please advise.

Thanks. I bookmarked and studied the link. It seems this is not as easy as I thought. Apparently I have to decide on how I want the 2 gfx cards to SLI and that is dependent on how I use my computer.

By the way, now that my system is up and running again with a single gfx card, where is the editable configuration file and what is it's filename? Thanks.

You have to create an xorg.conf (/etc/X11/xorg.conf). It's true that with newer distros you don't need one, but in this case you do need it.

You have to configure SLI in a certain mode even on Window$.
