Trying to help the newbies...
 

We've all seen the post "wireless in linux?" or "ndiswrapper problems." I'm trying to create a webpage for these newbies to help explain why their wireless card doesn't work, how using a windows driver and ndiswrapper can fix it, where to find these things, what to do if something goes wrong, etc. That way, when they post, I can just leave a link to the site. But, I need your help in what to do to better the page. If you wouldn't mind, take a look here http://www.angelfire.com/linux/hardwire/wireless.html and tell me what I can do to make it better. I know the site is kinda lame to look at as of yet, but I've only put an hour or two or work in so far. It'll get better. I just need some input on what else to change or include. Any ideas are much appreciated!

I was going to read it, but that website is incredibly difficult to read.
Perhaps it's my browser? It has some funky blue water background,
and the text below Wireless How-to: is too small for my eyes. So,
sorry, but I couldn't get to first base...

I'd suggest you read The HTML Hell Page.

Here's a few suggestions:

1.) Make the font alittle bigger.
2.) Change the background / font color to make it easier on the eyes
3.) Including screenshots would help newbies alot too. I personally love screenshots.
4.) If there is any distro specific information, i would definatly note that.

As far as actuall information on fixing your wireless card... can't help ya there, sorry!

Okay, okay, I took off the crappy background. I just made it white with big black letters. Should be easier to read now. Sorry for the complications....

Okay, I added a little more specific steps for SuSE and Mandriva users as those are the two distros with which I am the most familiar and recall the steps precisely. I'll keep working....thank you for your comments!!! I'll try to figure some screenshots out as I'm sure they are very helpful for newbies!!!

It looks alot better, keep the screen shots coming. Alittle color would be nice, aslong as its not painfull ;-)

A great idea but for colour blind people like myself it is not a good font and colour combination - why don't you copy a different site's font etc (how about Linuxquestions).

Don't give up though. Although possibly doing this as a tutorial on an existing site would have been a better idea.

Yeah, perhaps doing this as a tutorial would have been smart! But, I have fall break from the University, so I should have a couple of days to make things better. I know the look is terrible, so I'll try to come up with something subtle, yet easy to read. I'm moving the different sections to seperate pages....i.e. For installation problems, click here, ndiswrapper commands and their use, click here, Modprobing issues, click here, etc. I'll include the linuxant option today and make a place for it. Just remember, she's still a baby (less than 24 hours old) and there is plenty of development to come! I hope by the end of the weekend, you'll see a major improvement. Your comments (good or bad) are greatly accepted and I appreciate your help!

Well, things are looking up. I've added some screenshots for compiling, installing the driver, and also some for Suse users to navigate their wireless utility (since that's what I use). I've also added some links to resources, a few compiling errors and their fixes (hopefully), "modprobe ndiswrapper" issues and their fixes (again, hopefully), etc., and I will add more soon. It's far from done, but functional anyway. Hopefully it will help someone out. Feel free to comment, good or bad. Any suggestions or criticism are greatly accepted. Keep in mind, I'll worry about vanity later, I just wanted the content up first.

Its looking alot better! I like the grey background you have now, thats nice. Dividing into sections is nice too.
