trying to find motherboard model with fc5

Hi all,

Just wondering if there is a command that will enable me to get my motherboard type and model without having to open up my case. Or is there any software that will do the same thing.

Thanks in advance

-Mike

P.S. Merry Christmas and a happy new year!!!

Have just found lshw and have installed it but I can't for the life of me find out where it has been installed to. Can anybody point me in the right direction?

I have tried /bin, /sbin, /usr/bin, /usr/sbin, /usr/local/bin, /usr/local/sbin.

What am I missing?

try to run it as root. If you still can't find it try to type as root:
Quote:

# which lshw

# which lshw
/usr/bin/which: no lshw in (/usr/kerberos/sbin:/usr/kerberos/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/games:/home/mmorley/bin)

Still not finding it...

Just watch the boot up sequence. It should show the manufacture, model, and bios revision.

I don't want to reboot my server if I don't have to. All I want to do is see if my motherboard is compatable with the new AMD processors. Surely there must be a way to do this without a reboot??

Has anybody had this problem with lshw in the past?

Try hwbrowser it available via yum.

On this Ubuntu it's in /usr/bin - never had any issues running it on any distro. Note that I (still) refuse to use RPM based distros

Did you install it via the package manager ???.

Thanks for all the help lazlow. I ended up rebooting :( nevermind.

With regards to syg00's post... Well I have had no end of problems with fedora 3 - 5 and 8. I have recently installed gusty gibbon on my laptop and haven't looked back. Needless to say the next major install that I need to make on my desktop with no doubt be a buntu of some discription. I am thinking that I might wait for KDE 4 to be included in the next major release. I am just pig sick of all the dependancies that come with rpms.

Thank you for the help and have a happy new year!!!
