Troubleshoot new SSD

I have some old SSD's in a machine that I built in 2013. Those have not caused me any issues (yet). I am having issues with the brand new SSD I purchased a few months ago, go figure. I don't know if it's the disk defective in some way but I am trying to troubleshoot it.

Is this new ssd in an old host?
Does the OEM have some magician software or other diags?
Does this new ssd have high quality connections?
Is it a M.2?

Start troubleshooting by switching cables and controller port connectors. Hdparm and Smartctl are the customary Linux utilities for investigating SATA devices. HDD and SDD makers usually have test utilities on their websites.
