Unhappy Troubles with image on Buffalo BWC35H01 Webcam

Ok, so background info: I'm on a trip to Japan for 6 weeks, and decided while I was here that I wanted to skype friends and family back home. In that vein, I purchased this Buffalo BWC35H01 BKA webcam which included a headset. The headset works fine, but when I connect the webcam, I can't seem to get proper video. Skype gives me a green screen with some interesting static on top, and when I try to use VLC to stream v4l, I get no video at all.

My /sbin/lsusb gives me this:
Code:
Bus 002 Device 011: ID 0c45:602c Microdia Clas Ohlson TWC-30XOP WebCam
And dmesg gives this:
Code:
usb 2-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 11
usb 2-2: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
usb 2-2: SN9C10[12] PC Camera Controller detected (vid:pid 0x0C45:0x602C)
usb 2-2: OV7630 image sensor detected
usb 2-2: Initialization succeeded
usb 2-2: V4L2 device registered as /dev/video0
usb 2-2: Optional device control through 'sysfs' interface disabled
Based on this, the camera is getting detected as a Microdia webcam. The bottom line of the dmesg concerns me, but I'm not proficient enough yet to understand exactly what it means and how to fix it. The camera works under XP with the packaged driver, but nothing for Linux. I'm running an HP Pavilion dv4000 (purchased in '05) with Fedora 7 and 2.6.23.14. Thanks.
