troubles mounting zip drive

hello there,

i got some troubles with mounting my zip drive, in detail, every time i try to mount it (via mount /dev/sda4 /mnt/zip -t vfat or ext2) i receive just a message telling me that the vfat fs is not supported by the kernel, allthough i included it in the kernel directly. moreover, even if i try to mount a ext2 - formated disk, that message appears (of course now telling that the ext2 - fs is not supported). if i add something like this to my fstab file:
/dev/sda4 /mnt/zip vfat default 0 0
and try to mount it via mount /dev/sda4, i get "wrong fs, wrong parameters or bad superblock on /dev/sda4". nothing changes , if i try to mount an ext2 - disk this way ( after replacing vfat with ext2 in the line in fstab).
mysteriously, the kernel does not only identify the drive when booting (noticeable by some messages from the scsi system), if i execute mkfs ext2 /dev/sda4 no errors occur. it seems that it is possible to format zip disks allthough it is impossible to mount them?
as i mentioned above, i compiled every fs driver (vfat, msdos, and of course ext2) into the kernel version 2.6.8. i included the drivers for the parallelport, the general scsi driver, the scsi disk driver and the iomega zip driver (the old version).
until few days ago, everything worked well, before i reinstalled linux, so the hardware seems to be ok.
has anybody an idea how to mount my zip disks??

thank you

I have been trying to get my Zip drive to work with the
2.6x kernel for 2 months now...........ever since the kernel
dev team got rid of ide-scsi emulation, it screwed everything up.
So I'm gonna stick up the 2.4.27 kernel till 2.6x gets out of "beta"
and matures a bit more...........
