trouble with my modem and mouse

hello,
i've recently installed linux, i'm pretty sure i have a winmodem, is there any "simple" way to get linux recognising this? i can't get on the net to d/l drivers and so on so forth... anyquestion, my mouse sometimes stops responding.. usually after a big task (well semi big, like checking for new hardware) or (setting up internet connection) its a usb mouse...

i thought linux was uncrashable?? mine doesn't seem to have anything but problems??

thanks
regards
mark

Exclamation Check here

Modem: I don't have a software modem. This is about all I can do here.
http://www.linmodems.org

Mouse: I have read that Linux is still buggy with USB. You may want to try a PS/2 mouse till the next version comes out. That should be better.

Another note. You can put the specs of your system in your sig. That way we know and you don't have to post every time. See mine below. Makes it easier.
