Trouble with driver for nvidia 8500GT on Ubuntu 8

I have a geforce 8500 GT on my ubuntu machine with a amd athalon 64 x2
I can get the card to display but it isnt using the nvidia drivers everytime I try to install the nvidia-glx driver it says I am missing /usr/lib32/libGL.so.1 I tried making a symlink to that file from libGL.so.1.2 but it didnt work.

Also cannot get it to display through s-video hoping that changes when I install drivers.

Thank you for your time.

Yea same error.

Im wondering If I should just downgrade to 7.10 and install mythtv and all that stuff myself, It wont be as pretty but the drivers and amd64 support are probably at a more stable version. any suggestions?

Hi,

If you're on a 64bits system, are you sure you're using the 64bit nvidia drivers?
If you're on a 64bits multilib system and atempt to run a 32bit binary using opengl (exemple : Cedega), are you sure you have installed the 32bits required librairies? I don't know how it works with Ubuntu but with Gentoo, there's a package for this : "app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-xlibs-20080316".
Hope this helps
