Trident Cyber 9525 DVD config on Debian Sarge?

Hi all.
I've got an Acer Travelmate 345T. 512MB of RAM.
Video card: Trident Cyber 9525DVD with 2.5MB of video RAM.
LCD Display: Torisan TM121SV-02L04 12.1" - Resolution 800x600
(info taken from 340 series service guide)

Debian Sarge latest update. Kernel 2.6.8-3-686. XFree86 4.3.0.

Xfree86 uses the trident driver, but I'm only able to get resolution 640x480.
Moreover, playing movies is all but smooth, more so if I try to play them full screen.

Is there anything I can do to get things better?

Thanks,

Did you try dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86 and make sure to set the appropriate resolutions?

Or did you try using the VESA driver instead?

I tried xfree86config, but at some point the program asks me for H and V syncs, which I do not have and I'm not able to find them on the net.
As suggested, I used SVGA default values, but I don't think this is the best solution.

With the trident driver totem crashes with a Bad Alloc ... error, sorry I can't report it here right now because I'm away from my computer.

With the vesa driver totem works, but full screen is not smooth.

Thanks for your reply, I'll try the dpkg command and post back here.

Upgraded to Debian Etch and xorg.
Same problem: no way to play a video file whatsoever without producing a crash.

Until I put this in Subsection Display of my xorg.conf file:
Depth 16

instead of
Depth 24

Just don't ask me why, but it worked.
