Trendnet TEW-644UB and 10.04

Howdy All,

So I recently picked up a Trendnet TEW-644UB USB wireless device to use with an older laptop I have that runs 10.04 (it's internal wifi died)

Anyways - when I plus the dongle into the system it detects it right away and it even can see wireless networks! The only problem is that it cannot actually make a connection... I enter the wifi key and then it spins in a circle for awhile before failing :-/

Any suggestions?

~Jeff

For anyone else trying to use this wifi card it works fantastic under Ubuntu once you install the backported wireless modules.

Hi Jeff,

I hope you still visit this forum. I'm having the same problem you reported, and that's driving me nuts!

I read what you wrote about how to fix it but being new to Ubuntu, I have no idea how to do it (I actually tried, as I found someone on another forum explaining how to do it, but I eneded up messing up my Ubuntu instalation).

If you don't mind, could you post here a step by step instruction of how to do it?

Cheers,

Marcelo

Sure,

It is actually only a single command you have to run in terminal while having an active internet connection -

Code:
sudo apt-get install linux-backports-modules-wireless-lucid-generic
If you cannot get an active internet connection on your system I have also compiled a HOWTO for installing packages on an offline Ubuntu system - http://jeffhoogland.blogspot.com/201...-packages.html

Let me know if you have any other issues,
~Jeff
