transmit power

hi,
can i change the transmit power of network cards i am using ubuntu.

I think it depends on the card. I've heard of it working on some cards. Ubuntu is no different in that from other linuxes.

In most countries, this is not legal (for good reasons), so it is made very difficult to do (even with a linux distro).

You might try focussing the wireless signal in a particular direction by using an antenna.
Here is one that is easy to make: http://www.freeantennas.com/projects...te2/index.html

It depends on what you mean by change transmit power. Some wireless cards do have this capability which can be controlled via the iwconfig command. Look at the options for txpower.

Range depends on the distance from the access point and what objects are between it and your computer. Other devices that operate on 2.4GHz like cordless telephones will interfere with the wireless signal and can block it completely.
