Trackpad on Acer laptop not working.

Specs: Acer aspire A01-431, N3050 cpu, 2gb ram, freshly installed and updated linux mint 18.3.

I've had a look at the interwebs, but can only find articles on tweaking the trackpad...
Tried xinput -list but nothing showing:

So, where do I go from here?
Thanks in advance

1. Any reason you're booting with the 'i8042.noloop' kernel boot parameter? Having said that sometimes trying additional i8042 options (via grub2 boot entry) can be helpful with some hardware quirks. Some useful links below...

https://forum.antergos.com/topic/655...15-not-working
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php...etected_at_all

This thread is for different model laptop, butI included it because it will show how to add the entries to GRUB2...
https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...-a-4175600342/

This caught my attention
Code:
[ 1.729467] i8042: PNP: PS/2 appears to have AUX port disabled, if this is incorrect please boot with i8042.nopnp
so including that parameter could be useful.

2. I'm not sure what BIOS settings are available for your laptop, but this might be relevant...

Changing the precision touchpad settings in the BIOS

Can I change the way my precision touchpad works?

Your precision touchpad supports multi-gestures when it is set to Advanced mode in the BIOS. You can change this setting to Basic mode to make your precision touchpad operate more like a standard mouse.

answering your points in reverse order;

- the BIOS setting is already on 'advanced'

- i'll try adding i8042.nopnp and see what happens

- thanks for that, i already forgot how i edited it last time... also, does it matter that i added .noloop to grub, not grub2?

- i added .noloop after i read a thing (edit: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtop...gnised#p919748 ) where a similar problem was fixed that way.

...one more thing, is xinput -lst a command? i typo'd and 'some stuff' happened, not sure if i broke something haha

Mint is using the GRUB 2 bootloader (as with most distros). The config file /etc/default/grub. When the edit has been saved, the 'update-grub' command is run as root to apply the changes. (Specifically, this command runs the GRUB 2 configuration scripts and updates the /boot/grub/grub.cfg file.)

Ok, that explains the history. Always a good idea to share what you've read/tried .

No, use
Code:
xinput
which is the same as 'xinput list'. Nothing will break by typing an invalid option.

Use the following for more info...
Code:
xinput --help
Code:
man xinput
