Post your XF86Config file and we can help. It is in the /etc/X11 directory.
Heres the mouse section of mine, I just got my mouse wheel working. You will need to use an editor to modify the correct config file, Either XF86Config or XF86Config-4.

# Identifier and driver

Identifier "Mouse1"
Driver "mouse"

Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2" #this is the line that makes wheel work
#Option "Protocol" "PS/2"
Option "Device" "/dev/mouse"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"

Use Synaptics driver found at:

or pass psmouse.proto=imps option to the kernel.

im not sure if this has to do with this issue specifically

<directed to tjracer66>
...but i also have a hp zt1175 and had been looking to do exactly what you did (dual install xp/linux) although i was not yet sure what distro i wanted to use. i read that suse 9.1 has a parition utility (as does mandrake) and i was trying to find out specific driver/install problems for this laptop but couldnt really find any. did you have any problems with the install on this system? i would have PMed you but apparently i did not have permission and the email was denied. if you could answer this i'd greatly appreciate it
