Touchpad problems

Hello
I recently bought a new hard drive for my laptop, and had to reinstall Debian. I'm running Debian Sid, with kernel 2.6.24-1.
Xorg -version shows:

X.Org X Server 1.4.0.90
Release Date: 5 September 2007
X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0
Build Operating System: Linux Debian (xorg-server 2:1.4.1~git20080131-2)
Current Operating System: Linux Liberty 2.6.24-1-amd64 #1 SMP Thu Mar 27 16:52:38 UTC 2008 x86_64
Build Date: 14 March 2008 03:21:16PM

I've got two problems with the touchpad. First off, I want syndaemon to be running, so that the touchpad doesn't interfere with my typing, and it does so a *lot*. When I try to run syndaemon, I get this:

tda@Liberty:~$ syndaemon
Can't access shared memory area. SHMConfig disabled?

The second problem is that I want the right side of the touchpad to be a vertical scroll area.

I tried solving both the problems by adding some configuration to xorg.conf, according to man syndaemon and man synaptics

My xorg.conf:
Code:
cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf
# nvidia-xconfig: X configuration file generated by nvidia-xconfig
# nvidia-xconfig: version 1.0 (buildmeister@builder26) Thu Feb 14 18:13:41 PST 2008

# /etc/X11/xorg.conf (xorg X Window System server configuration file)
#
# This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using
# values from the debconf database.
#
# Edit this file with caution, and see the /etc/X11/xorg.conf manual page.
# (Type "man /etc/X11/xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.)
#
# This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only*
# if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg
# package.
#
# If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated
# again, run the following command:
# sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

The reason I commented out the additions I made is that it made X choke when trying to start up. I'm obviously doing something wrong, can anyone please help me out with this?

Never mind, I figured it out. Here's my xorg.conf, in case anyone's wondering what changes I made to make it work.

Code:
tda@Liberty:~$ cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf
