Touchpad detected as generic pointer on Dell Inspiron 3542

Hi, I just bought a new laptop (Inspiron 3542) and installed Mint 17 KDE on it in a dual boot. My problem is that the touchpad works minimally, but I can't enable advanced features because X detects it as a generic pointing device. Is there any way I can have it detcted as a proper touchpad?

Relevant /proc/bus/input/devices section:
Code:

This can happen with new hardware, where the required touchpad support hasn't made into the kernel. It may be worth upgrading to a newer kernel and see if your device is then better supported.

Just one guide I found
