Touchpad and Video/X

Hello everyone, I just finished installing Linux MDK 8.2 with few/no problems. The only thing I am having trouble with is video (X-server). I am currently running 16-bit at 640x480. I was running 256 colors, but I changed that. When I tried switching to 32-bit, 1024x768, X would not boot at startup, so I had to rescue the old settings. I tried 1024x768 but at 16-bit... X booted, but the screen appears to have stayed at 640x480. Also, when I view web pages, and even some elements in KDE, parts of the screen appear blurred.

Also, I'd like some Linux drivers for my Synaptics TouchPad so I can turn off tap-click; I keep clicking icons accidentally.

I am running Mandrake 8.2 on a Dell Inspiron 2600 laptop. Video is 32 MB Intel integrated (830 MG chip). Any help would be appreciated. I'd like to fix this video issue before I start diving into the Linux world. Thanks!

Okay, what I know most first:

The default with KDE and Mandy is one click lauch, which doesn't have anything to do with the touchpad drivers, its just a KDE setting you can juggle around with. I also hated that on my perma-borrowed compaqtop and its gone now

X settings are always a headache, getting better for easily probe-able gear, but still suck for laptops... TFTs don't probe as easily as CRTs. First off, since the Inspiron 2600 is more common than mosquitos, check over at www.linux-laptop.net to see if anyone has hacked out an XF86Config file for your model and card.

Luck,

Finegan
