Okay, what I know most first:
The default with KDE and Mandy is one click lauch, which doesn't have anything to do with the touchpad drivers, its just a KDE setting you can juggle around with. I also hated that on my perma-borrowed compaqtop and its gone now
X settings are always a headache, getting better for easily probe-able gear, but still suck for laptops... TFTs don't probe as easily as CRTs. First off, since the Inspiron 2600 is more common than mosquitos, check over at
www.linux-laptop.net to see if anyone has hacked out an XF86Config file for your model and card.
