Angry total newbie - broadcom v92 modem and suse 9.1

i am running suse linux 9.1 (personal) on a new dell inspiron laptop. i am a total newbie ti linux, i don't know any commands or how to do anything, but i'm just about fed up with windows. i tried several links to rebuild the red hat source for this modem (broadcom v92 56k), with no luck. it seems very overwhelming. i tried digging around for 3 days with no luck either. it is very frustrating that dell would put a piece of junk modem (with no cross-platform capabilites) in their machines. i am in need of an answer. please help! i am a somewhat experienced programmer (c++/java, web development), and this little problem is making me feel very stupid! thank you for your help,
jerry terrell

First check for the modem chipset. once you have the chipset manufacturer (which probably isn't dell) go to their site and see if they have a driver for that particular chipset. Don't be discouraged. Everone who ever switched to this most excellent OS went through a learning curve. It definately aint windoze.
