Toshiba Laptop chipset drivers ICH6 in particular

Hi All

Ok.. here is my thing!

I'm using Zenworks Imaging which runs on a Linux Kernel, namely 2.6.5-7.244. It works perfectly throughout our campus but seems to be struggling on Toshiba M50 laptops.

Generally, PCs imaged with Zenworks take about 30 minutes to complete but on the Toshibas it takes anywhere up to 4 hours. I've already added a new driver for the LAN card but this seems to have had no affect. My next target was going to be the hard disk controller. Looking at the specs of the machine, the system uses an Intel ICH6 controller.

I cannot find any source anywhere for the ICH6 but I've read a few things saying that 2.6x should have working by default.

Any tips on this or any other drivers that may be worth a go?

Cheers.

My gut feeling is that you should try a bit newer kernel. Even Debian stable branch (2.6.8) has a newer kernel than that and it was released some 18 months ago. From linux-on-laptops and tuxmobile, it looks like people have been having success with 2.6.10+ kernels.

Hi Thanks for the reply. I kinda figured that may be the case. Unfortunatly I'm limited by the Zenworks kernel thats built into the CD.

I could probably upgrade that too but not quite sure where to start!

Thanks anyway.

If you're imaging the drives, you could try installing it on one machine, then recompile the kernel, then take that drive image for the laptops.
