Toshiba L650-108 sound configuration

Before writing anything in this post Id like to apologize if what im going to ask is something very basic.

I have a toshiba L650-108 laptop (hardware info on toshibas website can be found here)
Ive recently switched distroes to debian 7. On my desktop I just installed the alsa package and sound worked, however on this laptop I had no sound after installing the alsa package. In alsamixer I can see my sound device (I can adjust Master, PCM and Beep) and the one thats the HDMI which isnt connected to anything (in there theres S/PDIF but its not adjustable), everything is set to full volume.

Why doesnt sound work and how do I get both of the audio devices working?

Try, as root,
Code:
echo "options snd-hda-intel model=thinkpad" >> /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
and reboot.
