I think you are busy. That is why I didn't get a response from you.
I badly need help. When you have time let me know the next step.

I know you live in the Netherlands. I live in Stockholm, Sweden.
Here it is possible to get a dongle for 2 weeks or 4 weeks for a trial.
You don't have to pay anything. If you keep it after the period you agreed with the operator, you are obliged to keep it for 24 months.
You have no chance to return it. Every month you should pay money to the operator; in other words you signed a contract for 24 months.
I think these things exist in the Netherlands too.
How about these things in the Netherlands?

If you don't have a dongle, you can get one for a trial period.

My 4 weeks trial period is over and I didn't return the dongle.
I must keep it fo
r another 24 months. Every month I must pay roughly 65 dollars to them.

Hi,

Lets give this one more try.

I do assume the following: Mandriva is started and you are logged in as normal user.

As root user, from a terminal post the output of the following commands:
- mandriva version:
Code:
cat /etc/mandriva-release
- runlevel check:
Code:
runlevel
- is ppp present:
Code:
ls -ld /dev/ppp /etc/ppp /var/run/ppp
- is dbus up and running:
Code:
ps -ef | grep "[d]bus"
- Insert the dongle, wait 5 seconds then:
Code:
lsusb
tail -50 /var/log/messages | grep -i usb
Now, from a terminal, still as root user, start sakis3g:
Code:
sakis3g --interactive
- does a window pop up (Choose action for Sakis3G script to follow., with a few options connect, more options, about, exit etc)?
- if this window is present, select Connect with 3G -> OK. Does a new window appear (Select modem category that best ...)?

If you do _not_ get a window after running the above sakis3g command, post the output of the following command:
Code:
sakis3g --interactive --debug 2
(there might be a lot of output, please post all of it!).

Lets see what the above tells us before continuing.

Thanks druuna
Here are all the details you want. I get the same old error message.

[ I got the same old error messages.]

Hi,

About becoming root: I see you use su root. You need to use su - (or su - root). The dash makes sure you get a full root account. Not using the dash will keep some of the normal users settings intact. I'm mentioning it because of this:
Quote:
kdialog(10329): Session bus not found
To circumvent this problem try the following command (with Linux and bash)
export $(dbus-launch)

About the command that doesn't work: That are 2 commands. lsusb and a separate tail-50 /var/log/messages |grep -i usb

You can ignore the following messages:
Quote:
Application asked to unregister timer 0x39000001 which is not registered in this thread. Fix application.
Application asked to unregister timer 0x3a000002 which is not registered in this thread. Fix application.

I do believe that the sakis3g program is installed and does work. But there are some other issues.

Can you do the following commands after you become a full blown root user (su - instead of su root):
Code:
sakis3g --interactive

# and:

sakis3g --interactive --debug 2

BTW: Please put your script/data inside [code] ... [/code] or [quote] ... [/quote] tags it preserves the layout. If you don't know how: LQ - BB Code List.

Your posting play havoc with layout......

Thanks druuna
I just came home from the gym. I did some circuit-training. I train 3 times a week.
I would agree it seems confusing and ugly when I don't use those tags.
They are basic HTML which I have learnt some 15 years ago.

I haven't learn 'su - root' is bit different. I know Ubuntu has some different syntax. I haven't been using Ubuntu for sometime.

I will do the things you have suggested and post here within some hours.

I badly need your help.

The texts are very long and it didn't allow me to post as a single one. So I was forced to post in several batches.

I got the same old error messages.

Hi,

Looking at the output you posted I notice the following:

- The sakis3g program seems to work nicely,

- Your dongle (12d1:1506:HUAWEI Mobile) is detected by sakis3g,

- The dongle can be selected,

- lsusb (seen from sakis3g) does see the dongle. But I do see this in the lsusb output:
Code:
.
.
    Interface Descriptor:
      bLength 9
      bDescriptorType 4
      bInterfaceNumber 1
      bAlternateSetting 0
      bNumEndpoints 1
      bInterfaceClass 255 Vendor Specific Class
      bInterfaceSubClass 1
      bInterfaceProtocol 9
      iInterface 0
      ** UNRECOGNIZED: 05 24 00 10 01
      ** UNRECOGNIZED: 0d 24 0f 01 00 00 00 00 08 06 01 00 00
      ** UNRECOGNIZED: 05 24 06 01 02
.
.
I'm not sure if the bold part can be ignored.

- I also see this in the sakis3g output:
Code:
[12203] [16:17:58] [base_fetch ] No information found for 12d1 within files/usb_devices.db database.
[12203] [16:17:58] [usb_get_interface ] No configuration for device 12d1:1506.
It looks like that this specific dongle is not present in the database that comes with sakis3g.

- Sakis3g cannot connect to the cdc_acm module (your dongle):
Code:
[12203] [16:22:51] [usb_sysfsdir ] Device 12d1:1506 sysfs dir found: /sys/bus/usb/devices/usb5/5-5
[12203] [16:22:51] [module_bind ] Module "cdc_acm" did not bind to device "12d1:1506".
[12203] [16:22:51] [show_fmt_error ] Error: Module "cdc_acm" loaded but refused to bind to device "12d1:1506".
You might want to try checking the options that sakis3g has and see if one (or more) are needed to get your dongle working. Do check the sakis3g webpages.

Based on this output:
Code:
[12203] [16:19:06] [usb_has_storage ] Device has storage part on interface #6.
[12203] [16:19:06] [usb_storage_settled ] Device 12d1:1506, provides storage interface #6.
[12203] [16:19:06] [usb_sysfsdir ] Device 12d1:1506 sysfs dir found: /sys/bus/usb/devices/usb5/5-5
[12203] [16:19:06] [usb_storage_settled ] Storage interface #6 is binded by usb_storage driver.
[12203] [16:19:06] [usb_sysfsdir ] Device 12d1:1506 sysfs dir found: /sys/bus/usb/devices/usb5/5-5
I would try this sakis3g option first: --nostorage (as in: sakis3g --nostorage --interactive).

As I stated before: Do check the sakis3g web pages to find out if this is a known issue for this specific dongle, if extra options are needed, if extra configuration need to be done, etc.

There could be a problem with the cdc_acm module itself and to be honest I'm not entirely sure how to tackle that problem. Do check the log files to see if anything comes up regarding this module and your dongle.

Hope this gets you going again.

Thanks druuna
I just came home from the gym and read your comments.
It seems you are running out of options.
I haven't given up this. I will try or rather spend some hours on this tomorrow.
I badly need your help.
I have spoken to some shops or rather ISPs who sell these dongles. They never meet a customer or a potential customer who uses Linux.
I bought it from the operator 3. I know they are in all over the Europe.
I talked to their technical support. They said they didn't support Linux.
Only Windows and Mac.

I have a portable computer with Windows 7. The dongle recognize it like a duck to water.
I rarely uses my portable computers.

Please keep a good watch on the thread. I don't mind talking to you on the phone to get help. It may be you don't want to talk to people on matters related to this forum.
