Tips/gotchas installing new Intel NIC into FC4
 

I am wanting to install an Intel Pro/1000 XT NIC I have at my disposal into a computer running FC4 in order to give it faster capacity for bursty transfers to other Gb hosts.

I have installed new hardware on established Linux installs and my personal record is not strong for success.

I plan on installing e1000-6.2.15.tar.gz as I found from their web site. I've read through the release notes and the read-me from the website and I haven't found a specific reference to Fedora Core 4.

Any tips/tricks/gotchas for my one-way endeavor before I commence.
