Three-Button Serial Mouse Not Working On Mandrake 9.1

Some time ago, I replaced my PS/2 mouse with a generic three-button serial mouse. However, Linux can't detect it; when I go to drakhardware, it identifies it as a generic two-button serial mouse. I know this mouse works both on two-button and three-button serial mouse settings, because I inserted my installation CD and upgraded Mandrake(basically reinstalling it, I suppose); the mouse worked fine throughout the installation, even after I set it as a three-button mouse instead of the two-button Linux identified it as. However, apparently the settings were not saved after I rebooted. Can anyone help me? The mouse works fine as a generic serial mouse in Windows.

If you're talking about your mouse working in X-Windows, take a look at http://www.xfree86.org/current/mouse.html for all your mousing needs. You might be able to use http://www.xfree86.org/current/mouse5.html#22 to fake the system out, or this one for a MS kind of mouse, http://www.xfree86.org/current/mouse6.html#27 .
