I have a cable that came with my modem circa 1999. It has two parallel port connectors and one serial port connector. I find myself in need of a null modem cable, will this thing do the job ?
no, you need one witht he send/reieve pins crossed over inside (otherwise sed connects to send on both sides etc. you can find diagrams online if you want to change ti yourself.
Serial cables can have both 25 pin and 9 pin connectors on the ends. Now days 9 pin is standard on PC's but I think external modems usually still have 25 a pin connector.
How is the cable configured? You might have to check with an ohm meter. Its the same for a 9 pin or 25 pin.
