Thinkpad R31, RH9 and screen resolution

Yesterday I bought a used thinkpad R31 - I'm quite happy with the machine (my first laptop) but I bought it used from a friend and there is no manual....

RH9 installed WONDERFULLY and it purrs like a kitten - only problem: I'm stuck with 800x600 on my screen, and it's supposed to be able to support 1026x768

RH probed the monitor and chose something generic - when i go into system settings > display and try to choose something else it also modifies the vertical refresh rates - That makes me all nervous so I haven't changed it yet.

Does anyone know what the vertical refresh rates should be for the R31? or how I can set this puppy up to show 1026x768 ? I searched the net, no answer. I searched this forum, and it seems like someone found out how to do it by modifying the XFree86, but they didn't mention how they modified it .

I'd appreciate any help - really, I would

ok - don't ask me how, but i think i got it by tweaking my XFree86 - i'll post it here just in case any of you can see that i'm about to make the whole thing explode in my face because of the settings

# file minus the extension (like ".txt" or ".db"). There is normally
# no need to change the default.

# Multiple FontPath entries are allowed (they are concatenated together)
# By default, Red Hat 6.0 and later now use a font server independent of
# the X server to render fonts.

# To customise the XKB settings to suit your keyboard, modify the
# lines below (which are the defaults). For example, for a non-U.S.
# keyboard, you will probably want to use:
# Option "XkbModel" "pc102"
# If you have a US Microsoft Natural keyboard, you can use:
# Option "XkbModel" "microsoft"
#
# Then to change the language, change the Layout setting.
# For example, a german layout can be obtained with:
# Option "XkbLayout" "de"
# or:
# Option "XkbLayout" "de"
# Option "XkbVariant" "nodeadkeys"
#
# If you'd like to switch the positions of your capslock and
# control keys, use:
# Option "XkbOptions" "ctrl:swapcaps"
# Or if you just want both to be control, use:
# Option "XkbOptions" "ctrl:nocaps"

Post your XF86Config file, don't sweat blowing the screen, that's still possible these days, but offhand I don't think you can really do it on a laptop display. Basically it doesn't happen anymore.

Cheers,
