Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

The Graphics become Distorted!!!

I have Leadtek 6600GT TDH. i did what it says in nvidia's website to install drivers and till last week it worked fine(i use suse 9.3 64bit). This week i noticed that, 10 or 15 minutes after kde is loaded, the graphics become distorted. I tried to take screenshots, but they do not show what i see. Anyway, i will add them to this topic as soon as possible.

I dont know how to explain the graphics, because they really become weird. When some time passes after kde is loaded, the window i am working suddenly turns into a window with a mass of colours. When i move my mouse over icons, they become normal again, but after minimizing and maximazing the window, they become distorted again. Especially the web pages in my browser become nothing but big colourful squares.

When i logout and login again, the desktop seems fine again. Everything go normal for some minutes, but after, they become bad again.

it can't be a hardware problem, because i use windows xp in the same machine and it works fine in windows xp. i think it's something related with nvidia's linux drivers. How can i fix it? is there anyone who experienced this silly problem?

i took this photo with my mobile phone. it isn't good but may give an opinion about how it seems;

that sounds like the refresh rate is to high. That would also explain why it wasnt captured with screenshots.

Yes, it was the first thing came to my mind, but in 1024x768 resolution, both my graphic card and monitor support 85Hz. And that's the value that i use both in windowsxp and in suse. Anyway, i tried a lower reresh rate to be sure that it isn't the problem. I reduced the refresh rate to 73Hz using the same resolution, but the distortion occured again. i will go mad soon.. whatever i did, i couldn't get this suse work without any problems. Is there any suggestion???

is your monitor CRT. You might want to try degaussing it. This can be done by navigating through menus with the little buttons on the front of the monitor. This might also explain why it is happening after 10-15 minutes. I have never seen it this extreme though so i might be wrong. It is worth a try though.

That didn't explain why the graphics only become distorted in suse, because in windows it works fine. Anyway i tried it, but nothing happened. It has to be a problem with the drivers.

Once i have set up all the things fine in suse, i will only use linux but i can't get my head out of these problems, please help me
