The generic Joystick

Is the "generic Windows joysticks" such as "4-button joystick" or "6 button joystick with axis" that connected into an old "midi/game port" recognized in Linux? I'm using Ubuntu 8.04.

I would have to imagine so. Why not just try it? As of Fedora 9 and Ubuntu 8.04, the Xbox 360 and PS3 controllers are plug and play.

It should work fine, I've done it before.

This may give you some hints, Gentoo articles are pretty generic and should work in most OS's.
