Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Smile TFT monitor and Xconfig

As a newbie to Linux I successfully installed Redhat 8.0 with a regular monitor and all went well. I then selected my IBM 9513 T55A XGA monitor from the list to reconfigure; plugged it in, rebooted and hey bingo - the monitor goes blank and sulks, and (presumably), X no longer starts! XF86Config showed incorrect vert and horiz synch settings, so were edited to the correct settings manually - still no luck. XConfigurator not present in my 8.0 version...

Any thoughts or ideas greatly appreciated...
