test monitor

Is it possible to temporarily test a monitor with only one graphics card?
Attach it, boot up, see if it works, shut down and remove without changing existing monitors settings.

Probably,

If the X settings are in the same range as the monitor X was set for. Most of these are wide ranges and will handle the switch without issues. Basically any monitor since about 1997 is going to have ballpark similar ranges, and the days of blowing the monitor tubes is pretty much long past. If we're just talking about terminal, like a tty, VGA mode... then of course, any monitor since 1996. And there's no need to worry about pulling the monitor hot, crash carts in server rooms are pulled and plugged hot all the time.

Cheers,

Finegan
