Unhappy ess modem problem

i have an internal ess-es56h-pi modem but SuSe linux 9.1+kde 3.3 cannot find the modem . what can i do ? i have read many articles on net but i am newbie to linux and i can't understand . please help me . thanks

there is a good chance that that modem is a 'win modem' this meens that the modem dosent have all the components it needs to function withought complicated (and usually propiratory) drivers from microsoft.

such modems are usually difficult.. but not impossible to work in linux.

a quick google search shows that a lot of people are having your problem.... and there appears to be only one option... get a new modem

any external modem will work (talking normal serial modems here,
I've never tried a USB modem).
There's a D-Link external V.90 one that seems to work quite well.
I just had a look on and they've got them for $109
(D-Link DFM-560E)
