Terminal Services Client Printer redirection not working
 

Hi,

I may be in the wrong forum here I'm sorry. I run a Win2K3 Terminal Server. i have set up a workstation box that runs the latest Kubuntu. I also have a Samsung ML-2010 printer. The printer driver loaded up OK & works fine as a local printer on the Kubuntu box.

The problem I have is I cannot see how or where to load the Linux driver on the Win2k3 Terminal Server so when I connect to the server the printer is visable & usable in Terminal session


What I did notice in the Terminal Services Client provided with Kubuntu there is only an option to connect the Local Hard Drive & not printers, clipboard & serial ports etc etc that can be found in the Windows Terminal Client software.

I don't know if I need another Linux client that has that printer checkbox or what. If so could someone recommend one that will do the job

My way around this was to install pdf creator in my win2k3 server, and copy the 'printed' pdfs back to my ubuntu Desktop, then printing them locally.

Many Thanks for the Quick Reply. I had thought of that but my client needs seamless printing the exact same their other XP terminals do when connected to the Win2K3 server. Just reading your post I was thinking maybe what I want is not possible in that Linux (or the Terminal Services Client program) does not support local printer re-direction when connected to a Windows Terminal Server. Don't know who would agree with that but anyway Many Many thanks for the reply

You need to use Samba to share the printer so that you can configure the w2k3 box to print to the shared printer. TLDP has some good information on setting this up - http://tldp.org/HOWTO/SMB-HOWTO-9.html

The program in ubuntu that provides terminal services is called rdesktop. Take a look at the website:
http://www.rdesktop.org/

There are links there for 'professional services', whatever that means, maybe they can help you out. There is some docs there too.
