telnet to a serial device on a remote computer

I have a temperature sensor attached to COM1 on a windows machine, is there anyway I can telnet from a linux box to the com device on a windows box?

Hi Derek, yes there is software that will allow this, check out this link for an example:

I'm not sure of any freeware or GNU programs though.

You can try a google search on "serial over tcp"

Set up a server on the windows box. A telnet server would work, but an SSH server would be better, see:
