TEAC Card Reader CA200/b/s installed but not showing contents of SD card
I have the subject card reader installed in a Dell inspiron 631 on which I installed Linux Mint 16 (Cinnamon) and this is now Linux Mint 17 (Cinnamon) due to updates.
The card reader is shown on the desktop in Computer with the 4 different cards shown.
When I insert an SD card a green light comes on and stays on but nothing appears on my monitor screen.
Do I need to install something to make it work in Linux as the original OS was windows XP and I removed the HDD and replaced with a new one and did a clean install of Linux.
The reader is shown in lsub and dmesg but I dont understand what those commands are telling me so can anyone help please?
Thank you
Tikiman
Thank you for info beachboy2 and I have actually complied with the given instructions which resulted in the following detail from the terminal:-
xxxxx@xxxxx-Inspiron-531 ~ $ sudo apt-get install gksu
[sudo] password for xxxxx:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
gksu is already the newest version.
0 to upgrade, 0 to newly install, 0 to remove and 55 not to upgrade.
xxxxx@xxxxx-Inspiron-531 ~ $ gksu gedit /etc/modules

The Modules screen also came up and I added the detail to the bottom of the file and saved it. Then I exited the modules screen and was confronted with the detail above. I am now off to try the sd card to see what happens and will post response from computer.
Okay I have now inserted an SD card known to have photographs loaded on it from the camera that had taken the pictures.
I know that they are there because yesterday I copied them to my laptop running Windows 7 and then copied them from there to a USB drive. No reaction from computer, the card reader sits showing green light but NOTHING on screen. Have now removed SD card from slot and will insert USB drive.
Inserted USB drive into computer and up comes the Home screen showing the 2 files that I copied to pictures so if all else fails I could continue to use this method to get my pictures on to this Linux driven computer.
Maybe was given incorrect info because I did not specify that I wanted to download pictures.
If anything that I have advised is of any assistance to you to fix the problem the please let me know.
Many thanks for your assistance so far

Thank you for the info and I have now installed leafpad okay with no problems and inserted SD card into reader and again green light beside SD slot comes on and screen stays at home screen with no response from the reader. As it it obvious that there must be something wrong with the reader and having checked the internet several people have had the same problem and resolved it by removing the reader cable and re attaching it. So I am going to shut down computer and open it up and try this fix. I f that does not work then I will download my pictures to a usb drive on my laptop and transfer them via that to this computer.
Thank you very much beachboy2 and I will advise later on how I get on.
I have also contacted TEAC and am awaiting some info from their technical department.

Thank you beachboy2 for your info however as I said previously I had contacted Teac and they suggested that I try another type of card if I had one.
I inserted a CF card which immediately brought up a screen asking me what action to take with the card and I choose to open the folder on which there are photographs that I could access. Boyed up with this I removed CF card and tried all my SD cards and lo and behold all cards up to 2GB worked okay and brought up the screen asking what to do with the card. Anything above 2GB is just not recognized so now at least I know what I can and can't do with the card reader.
I am going to close this post as resolved although it isn't really.
Thank you very much beachboy2 for your kind information and patience with my problem

[SOLVED] TEAC Card Reader CA200/b/s installed but not showing contents of SD card Reply to Thread L
Further to this thread being marked as solved it has now ACTUALLY BEEN SOLVED.
The reason is that the card reader was released and in use prior to the advent of SDHC and it cannot read anything above 2GB. It does read all SD cards at 2GB and below and it also reads CF cards so the unit is working perfectly and linux has correctly recognised the reader.
This may be an assistance to anyone with readers that do not appear to work and it pays not to leap to conclusions about your equipment.
