tape drive

iv'e got an old but unused tape drive(colorado 250mb)-i installed it on the same cable(came with the drive and is marked) as the floppy. when you put in a tape it runs back and forth(as if checking itself out, setting up, whatever), so i think the power and drive are ok. how do i configure things-floppy shows up as fd0 at boot but i can't seem to get it mounted(this was true pretape). i can format a disk w/floppyformatter. any help getting me started here will be appreciated.
