I have got a HP DDS cleaning cartidge to go into tape unit attached to a Solaris/ Sparc machine - does anyone know how to clean the tape drive after inserting the tape in the tape media?
Do I need to issue any mt command? I looked at HP website - they don't say anything.
If the tape drive has an "alert" or "clean" light it should turn off after a successful cleaning cycle.
As michaelk said above, it's usually just a matter of inserting the cartridge and allowing the drive to recognize it as a cleaning cartridge, at which point it should perform the maintenance automatically.
