T & A Mobile Phones Alcatel OneTouch L850V / Telekom Speedstick LTE 1bbb:0195 - aka 'LinkZone 2'

I just got this hotspot (T-Mobile stopped supporting my old hotspot - grrrr...) and can't get it work. The LEDs show working states, lsusb lists the device, but there's no eth? device; nothing makes cdc_ether load. It's as though I need a module that I don't have, but can't find anything likely in Linux's source. There are some very old threads about the Alcatel SpeedTouch.

With the old modem cdc_ether creates eth1; loading cdc_ether with the new makes nothing.

I've read Alcatel's manual.

usb id: 1bbb:0195

Later:

building the rndis modules makes no difference. For a guy on the Internet it created a network device with rndis_host, but not for me.

Later yet:

Better searching turned up that it uses rndis drivers, which I'm building now, and may or may not require usb_modeswitch to changes its mode from storage (Linux is creating /dev/sdb, apparently in response to it) to hotspot. The message to send, according to some, doesn't work for me, gets an error. usb_modeswitch commands need to be figured out from the Windoze drivers - sigh. I hope I don't have to do that.

Still later:

I had to re-boot after building the new modules.

I don't have to use usb_modeswitch because the configuration already in /usr/share/usb-modeswitch/1bbb:f000 is the correct one to switch this device from storage to networking; it must have been not-working because I needed to re-boot.

It's better if you post solutions as a follow-up post, because:

1) it removes the thread from the list of "Zero Reply Threads".
2) it causes anyone who might have subscribed to get notified (which editing doesn't do).

Yes, thanks. I didn't think of that. I remember I'm annoyed by solved posts in the unanswered category.
